AARP and Indeed Launch Job Search Tool and Career Resources Hub to Help Older Workers Get Hired
WASHINGTON—Today, there are roughly 38 million people ages 55 and older in the labor force, more than two and a half times the number that were in the workforce 40 years ago. But many older professionals feel that age discrimination can hurt their chances of getting a new job or advancing in their careers, and many feel they lack access to tools and information to help them successfully navigate and compete in today’s job market.
In an AARP survey released today, 24% of workers age 50 and older say they are planning to make a job change this year. Of this group, 65% say they have not taken any steps in the last two years to prepare for a job search. The top concerns for job seekers include finding job opportunities and updating their resume.
To help older workers jumpstart their job search and prepare for their next career move, AARP and Indeed have teamed up to launch a job search platform and career resources hub. The hub provides resources and tools to help older workers stay competitive in the job market and find a job that meets their needs, whether that be opportunities to learn new skills and advance in their careers or flexibility to accommodate caregiving responsibilities.
“The new tools we’re launching with Indeed will help older job seekers more confidently navigate today’s job market,” said Carly Roszkowski, Vice President of Financial Resilience Programming, AARP. “With the number of older workers projected to grow significantly over the next decade, addressing their needs and concerns will benefit both workers and employers.”
Through the new career resources hub, job seekers can find job listings and free tools and resources, including resume assistance and interview preparation. Job listings are curated to include top-rated employers who have a high Work Wellbeing Score.
“At Indeed, our mission is to help all people get jobs,” said Carmen Graf, VP of Marketing and co-sponsor of the All Generations Empowered Inclusion Business Resource Group (IBRG) at Indeed. “Older workers bring unmatched experience, insight, and leadership to the workplace, and they remain a vital part of today’s workforce. Through our collaboration with AARP, we’re expanding access to meaningful job opportunities while equipping experienced job seekers with tools and resources to demonstrate their value and thrive in their careers.”
Over 3,300 companies nationwide, including Indeed, have joined AARP’s Employer Pledge Program, since it began in 2012. The pledge highlights employers who are committed to attracting and retaining an age-diverse workforce. From 2021 to 2024, the number of organizations who signed the pledge increased by 71 percent.
