A graduate of DePaul University College of Law and licensed since 1981, James began his career as a litigator with the Cook County Public Defender and Attorney General’s office. He opened his own practice in 1985, and his focus remained primarily in the areas of Elder Law and Estate Planning for the ensuing 37 years. James joined Strohschein Law Group as “Of Counsel” on July 1, 2022. Certified by the National Elder Law Foundation as a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA), he is one of less than 20 attorneys holding that distinction in the State of Illinois. In addition, he is AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, has been designated both a Leading Lawyer (limited to the top five percent of lawyers licensed to practice in the State) and a Super Lawyer (a rating service of outstanding lawyers who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement), and has held numerous leadership posts in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys during his long membership in that organization. James has been the recipient of the Illinois Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys Chapter Member of the Year Award and the Ronald Runkle Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Illinois Chapter. James and his wife have three adult sons; Jason, an emergency room physician; Jake, a MD/PhD student, and Kyle, who followed in his father’s footsteps and practices law downtown. James and his sons were active with the Boy Scouts of America, where each of his sons achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
